Position: Passenger Assistant
Location: Grimsby (serves mainly Grimsby and Cleethorpes)
Salary: £12.21 per hour (PAYE)
Shifts: Flexible, based on the needs of the Education and Transport Team
About Our Client
Our client is a trusted local authority dedicated to supporting children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). They play a crucial role in ensuring students are transported to and from school safely, comfortably, and respectfully.
Role Overview
As a Passenger Assistant, you’ll support the daily transport of SEND children and young people. Your focus will be on ensuring their safety and wellbeing during every journey, working closely with drivers, school staff, and families. This position is ideal for individuals with a caring nature and a background in special education or care.
Key Responsibilities

Ensure passengers are safely secured and wearing seatbelts

Supervise the safe boarding and exiting of vehicles

Respond calmly to behavioural challenges or emergencies

Communicate effectively with parents, carers, and school staff

Assist with transitions from wheelchairs and attend to medical or mobility needs

Maintain an accurate journey record and report safeguarding concerns appropriately
Working Hours

Morning pick-up: typically between 08:00 – 09:30

Afternoon drop-off: typically between 14:00 – 16:30

Average benchmark hours: around 16 per week

On rare occasions, hours may exceed this to accommodate out-of-area transport (e.g. Scunthorpe, Hull)

Daily and weekly assignments may vary depending on operational needs
Key Requirements

Previous experience of working with children, particularly those with SEND (formal or informal)

Background in special education or care is essential

Existing Enhanced DBS certificate is required

Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and equality policies

Ability to handle challenging behaviours with empathy and composure

Comfortable performing physical duties and dealing with occasional exposure to bodily fluids

Willingness to undergo training

Must live locally or be able to reach a designated pick-up point within 15 minutes
